ART FOR ST. JUDE

    Local artist Robert James Phelps and The Arts Council of Mississippi County will be hosting an art exhibit in the gallery of The Ritz Civic Center (Theater) 306 W. Main Street in Blytheville, AR on Saturday, January 9, 2010, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm.  Two pieces of the art are to be raffled off, with the proceeds being donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

     The two selections of art to be raffled are both depicting classic images of the crucifixion of Christ.  One is in the medium of an oil painting, while the other is in a wood burning.  The raffle winner will have the opportunity to select one of the two different pieces of art offered.  The one not chosen will be available for purchase.  The cost of the raffle tickets are just $5.00 each, or 5 for $20.00 and are available from now until the night of the art exhibit at The Ritz.

     The exhibit is titled, “The Gorilla King’s Final Strike”.  Phelps has had previous art exhibits in the gallery of The Ritz entitled “Art of the Gorilla King” (December, 2005) and “The Return of the Gorilla King” (December, 2006).

     “The Gorilla King’s Final Strike” will feature over a dozen selections of Phelps’ works not previously shown before.  Phelps stated that not all of the art in the exhibit is religious in nature.  Other works of art vary in both subject matter and medium.  Phelps stated, “There is art for the portrait lover, the admirer of landscapes, the strange individuals who seek hidden meaning behind silly nonsensical paintings, and even something for the nerdy comic book geeks like me. There truly is something for everyone.”

      Everyone is invited to come out and support the good people of St. Jude and the children they help.  Tickets can be purchased anytime before the reception at The Ritz Civic Center (Theater) during their normal business hours.  Tickets will be available for purchase until 5:30pm of the night of the reception.  There is no limit as to how many tickets you can buy.  All money raised from the raffle and the exhibit will go to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Admission to attend the reception is FREE, but the purchase of a ticket is appreciated.  For more information call The Ritz Civic Center at 762-1744.
